T6 T32 18 or 19 Inch Wheel and Tyre Size Guide

3 June 2026Wheels & Tyres

The Problem

The owner wanted to upgrade from OEM 17-inch wheels on a T6 T32 but could not decide between 18-inch and 19-inch aftermarket alloys. Insurance restricted the upgrade to no more than two inches over standard, and T32 load-rating requirements narrowed the available tyre options further.

Solution

  1. For 19-inch wheels, fit 255/45/R19 tyres — this gives a well-proportioned sporty look and sits higher than the OEM Sportsline 18-inch tyre. The 255/45/R19 has a rolling diameter of roughly 712mm against roughly 687mm for the OEM 255/45/R18 Sportsline tyre — about 25mm taller overall. Check arch and inner-wing clearance against that extra height, and expect your speedometer to under-read by around 3-4% on the larger diameter.
    • Several owners consider this the sweet spot: wider than standard without going excessively low-profile.
  2. For 18-inch wheels, 235/55/R18 gives a less low-profile result; 255/45/R18 (OEM Sportsline size) is available but multiple owners felt it looked slightly under-tyred on T32 vans.
  3. Confirm the load rating of any alloy before buying — T32 vans require a higher load rating than many aftermarket listings assume, and 20-inch options in suitable load ratings are very limited.
  4. Use ET35 offset all round — owners running this confirmed a flush, well-set stance without arch contact.
  5. If fitting wheel spacers, use hubcentric units only; 10mm H&R spacers in 5x120 PCD with 65mm centre bore are a known-good fitment on these vans.
    • On 15mm spacers with 19-inch Amarok wheels the front tyres just catch the arch plastic, so stay at 10mm if in doubt.
    • Important: fitting spacers is a modification on top of the wheel upgrade and may affect your insurance — the same cover already restricting you to two inches over standard may not extend to spacers. Declare any spacers to your insurer in writing before fitting.
    • Torque the wheel bolts on spacer-extended studs to the VW T6 figure of 180 Nm, and re-check after the first 50 miles. (Confirm with your dealer or the spacer manufacturer if your hardware specifies otherwise.)
