Covering Kombi Floor Seat Bracket Holes After Seat Removal

3 June 2026Interiors

The Problem

Removing rear seats from a VW Kombi leaves open bracket holes in the floor that are unsightly and a trip hazard. No ready-made covers were easy to source, so the owner modelled and printed a custom solution.

Solution

  1. Print your own blanks from the shared 3D files.
    • The STL and PRT files were shared in the original forum thread this guide is based on; obtain them directly from that thread (URL not preserved in this writeup — verify the source link before downloading). If you cannot locate the files, use the ready-made option in step 2.
    • Print in ABS+ rather than PLA; PLA can soften and warp above roughly 50°C, which a parked van in direct sun can easily exceed.
  2. Alternatively, buy ready-made covers. On eBay, search: VW Kombi Seat Insert Caps Mounts Base Covers T5 T5.1 T6 T6.1. They are also sold by Surface Scan for approximately £39.93 delivered (no supplier URL was provided in the source — search 'Surface Scan VW Kombi seat blanks' or verify the supplier and price before ordering).
  3. Press the blanks into the floor seat bracket holes — no fasteners or tools needed.

What you’ll need

Tools

  • 3D printer (if printing own blanks)
  • hot air gun (only needed to re-flatten a warped blank)

Parts

  • floor seat bracket blanks / covers — Surface Scan
