Fiamma F43 on VW T5/T6 Pop-Top: No-Drill Fitting Guide

The Problem
The owner needed to know which Fiamma awning — the F43 or F45s — would work with a VW Transporter pop-top roof, and whether either model could be fitted without drilling into the van bodywork.
Solution
- Choose the Fiamma F43 — it is compatible with a VW T5 or T6 pop-top roof, and the F45s is not required despite what some converters suggest. Note that the T5 ran from 2003–2015 across two facelifts (T5 to T5.1) with differing roof rail and gutter specifications, and roof variants differ between SWB and LWB and between factory-rack and bare-roof vans. Confirm your exact year, body length, and roof type before ordering, as gutter-hole spacing and bracket compatibility are not universal across the range.
- Order the correct Fiamma F43 mounting bracket kit for your roof type, which bolts directly into the factory roof rack or rain gutter holes already on the van so no new holes need to be drilled into the bodywork. Fiamma supplies model-specific adapter kits (for example the Kit Standard or a vehicle-specific gutter/rack bracket set) — confirm the exact product name and SKU with the supplier against your van's roof configuration before purchase (verify part number before ordering).
- Tighten the bracket bolts into the roof rack or rain gutter fixings to the manufacturer's specified torque — Fiamma does not publish a single universal figure and it varies by bracket kit and fixing type, so check the figure in the kit's fitting instructions or with the supplier before final tightening (verify torque with manufacturer or dealer). Do not overtighten into the rain gutter, as this can deform the gutter lip.
- Before ordering, check whether your existing roof bars conflict with the bracket positions. Measure the available clearance between the roof bar feet and the intended bracket fixing points and check the bar height against the cassette's mounting depth — the F43 can be fitted alongside roof bars without removing them only where the bars do not sit over a required gutter fixing point. Note the make and type of bar (for example Thule or VW factory bars) and confirm clearance against the bracket kit dimensions in the Fiamma fitting instructions.
- Position the mounting brackets anywhere along the length of the cassette to work around obstructions such as a scissor hinge, so you can still align with a factory gutter fixing point.
- Order the Fiamma Kit Rain Guard Van and fit it into the gap between the cassette and the van roof. This is required when mounting the F43 directly to the van with Fiamma brackets, but is not needed if you are using a Vamoose rail or similar awning rail instead. The kit is listed as compatible with VW T5, Vivaro, Trafic, and Transit — confirm it covers your specific year and body variant.
Compatibility note: this configuration has been reported working by owners, but published confirmation is limited. Treat fitment as something to verify against your own van's roof spec and the supplier's fitting guidance rather than as guaranteed.
