VW T6 screen cover won't fit - fitting order and T6.1 fix
3 June 2026Vehicle Faults
The Problem
The Maypole (Funky Leisure) windscreen cover was too small and the wrong shape to fit a T6.1 van, with corners that did not match the windscreen profile. You may spend over an hour with two people attempting to stretch it into position and trying it both ways up without success.
Solution
- Fit the side window covers first before touching the windscreen cover.
- Attach the windscreen cover by connecting the velcro strips first, then pull the cover back into final position so it overlaps the side window covers at each mirror.
- This order gives you the slack needed to bridge the join between the side and front sections.
- Check the cover is the right way up — the label should sit at the bottom.
- If the cover is still too small or the wrong shape on a T6.1, return it — the Maypole cover has been confirmed by the seller as not suitable for T6.1 vehicles. Note that the seller's confirmation related specifically to the T6.1 windscreen; whether the same Maypole cover fits the earlier standard T6 (non-.1) correctly was not established, so confirm fitment for your exact generation with the seller before ordering rather than assuming it works (confirm this applies to your T6 generation).
- Order a replacement Comfortzleisure three-piece windscreen cover for the VW T6/T6.1, which has wide velcro strips for adjustment and packs into a supplied bag. Comfortzleisure does not publish a separate product code for this cover, so search the supplier's listing for the "VW Transporter T6/T6.1 three-piece external thermal screen cover" and confirm the listing matches your generation before ordering (verify part number before ordering).
- If the tailgate cover lifts repeatedly in high winds, hold it flush against the glass with a non-elasticated tie-down strap (a cam-buckle or ratchet luggage strap rather than a bungee). Run the strap horizontally across the outside of the tailgate cover and anchor each end to a fixed point on the van — for example loop each end around the rear quarter-bumper sections or the towbar/recovery points where fitted — then tension it just enough to pin the cover without crushing the glass seal. Avoid hooking the strap onto the wiper arm, washer jet or any trim clip, as these are not load-bearing.
