Fit Audi Q5 dynamic indicators to T6 wing mirrors

3 June 2026Bodywork & Exterior

The Problem

You want sequential dynamic indicators on the T6 wing mirrors, which are not fitted as standard. A first attempt at gluing the indicator into the cover can fail — Q-Bond cyanoacrylate adhesive bonds skin instantly, so it is easy to glue your fingers to the part.

Solution

  1. Source Audi Q5 dynamic LED indicator strips — these are reported compatible with T6 mirrors. Confirm the exact OEM or aftermarket strip against your mirror style (verify part number before ordering).
  2. Note your generation and mirror type before buying covers. This guide is based on the T6 (2015–2019); the facelift T6.1 (2020-on) and different mirror trim levels can use a different lower cover shape, which changes the cutting required (confirm this applies to your T6 generation). Identify your mirror by its existing cover part number or by matching it at a VW parts desk.
  3. Buy replacement lower mirror cover pieces to modify, so the original parts are not damaged. Order the correct left and right lower covers for your specific mirror (verify part number before ordering — confirm against your van's VIN at a VW dealer or parts specialist).
  4. Use a Dremel to cut away material from the inside of the lower cover until the indicator strip sits correctly in place. Remove material a little at a time and test-fit the strip repeatedly — take off only enough for the strip to seat flush, stopping as soon as it fits. Do not cut to a single pass; the top cover piece needs the most material removed, so work slowly to avoid going through the outer face and scrapping the part.
  5. Secure the indicator in place using Q-Bond adhesive, working carefully to avoid skin contact with the glue.
  6. If the cover's plastic lugs or tabs are damaged during fitting, use polymorph thermoplastic to mould replacement lugs and hold the cover in position until set.
  7. Plug the indicator in — no VCDS or OBD11 coding is needed; the repeater circuit is not monitored by the ECU and the indicators work immediately.
