VW T6 wind deflectors: ClimAir vs Heko vs OEM compared

3 June 2026Vehicle Faults

The Problem

OEM deflectors bonded to the painted door surface eventually lifted and left a permanent shadow in the paint, while Team Heko channel-fit versions used metal clips that prevented the window glass from sealing fully, producing a persistent wind whistle above 50mph. The owner wanted a replacement that eliminated both the paint adhesion damage and the wind noise without requiring repeated repositioning every time the window was opened.

Solution

  1. Choose ClimAir deflectors over OEM or Team Heko — they fit into the window glass channel using a small bracket near the door mirror, with no double-sided tape and no metal clips that foul the window seal.
  2. Source a 1mm drill bit before you start — it is not included in the ClimAir kit but is required to drill the mounting hole in the black plastic mirror trim.
  3. Slide the deflector into the window channel and position the bracket against the black plastic trim near the mirror.
  4. Drill the 1mm hole and secure the bracket screw, pushing the screw end of the clip slightly toward the window so it sits in the middle of the trim rather than at the edge.
    • This adjustment keeps the bracket solid and has been reported to stay in place for three or more years without refitting.
  5. Expect the bottom section of the deflector to angle outward from the window glass rather than sit flush — the fitting instructions show this as correct.
  6. Optionally remove the blue ClimAir logo using UPVC acetate cleaner if you want a cleaner appearance.
