VW T6 wind deflectors that won't fly off at motorway speed

3 June 2026Vehicle Faults

The Problem

Heko clip-on wind deflectors repeatedly came loose and flew off at motorway speeds, even after fitting additional clips purchased from Amazon. The owner tried sourcing extra clips multiple times but the deflectors continued to detach from the driver's window.

Solution

  1. Remove the failed Heko clip-on deflectors entirely — extra clips will not reliably solve the problem long-term.
  2. Purchase Climair wind deflectors, which are designed to be permanently fitted using small drilled fixing holes rather than adhesive or clips.
    • Multiple owners report zero issues after 2–5 years of use including regular motorway runs.
  3. Carefully drill two small holes (approximately 1 mm) in the window surround plastic at the fixing points indicated by the deflector template.
    • Use the smallest drill bit that fits the fixing; going slowly avoids cracking the plastic.
  4. Fit the Climair deflectors per their instructions and leave them in place — they are priced roughly two-thirds of OEM VW stick-ons, so replacing at van sale is cheaper than removing and patching.
    • If removal is ever needed, a smear of black silicone fills the 1 mm holes invisibly.

Safety Notes

  • A deflector detaching at motorway speed becomes a high-velocity projectile — do not continue using clip-on deflectors once they have come loose once.
